What is the ethnic pay gap in your workplace?

A NEW campaign has been launched to lobby for more equal pay for Black, Asian and ethnic minority employees.

The Ethnicity Pay Gap campaign day takes place on Saturday and raises awareness of the perceived pay differences between black, Asian and ethnic minority workers compared to their white counterparts.

The initiative encourages people of black, Asian and minority descent to contact the organizations they work for and asks them to consider reporting their ethnic pay gap.

The Ethnicity Pay Gap campaign was founded three years ago by Dianne Greyson and hopes to encourage the government to make the Ethnicity Pay Gap report mandatory.

Government Equality Ministers Kemi Badenoch and Liz Truss have so far resisted multi-party calls to introduce mandatory monitoring of ethnicity-based pay, despite demands from former Prime Minister Theresa May, CBI and TUC.

A control of remuneration according to gender has already been introduced.

In 2020, several UK companies across different industries reported their ethnic pay gaps, with many companies admitting they “still have a long way to go” in addressing pay disparities across their workforce.

Many companies, which have voluntarily disclosed their salary data, have developed action plans to improve the wages of their black, Asian and ethnic minority workers and make their companies more representative and inclusive.

The Ethnicity Pay Gap campaign also urges organizations to fight pay disparity once and for all.

The campaign aims to find solutions to close the pay gap for black, Asian and ethnic minority workers and to encourage companies to integrate Ethnicity Pay Gap Reporting into their diversity strategy.

The new strategy hopes to ultimately improve the wages and financial rewards of black, Asian and ethnic minority workers.
