VTMNTS’ FW22 Debut Track Is A Statement On Gender Equality
Vetements’ new VTMNTS line made its runway debut at Paris Fashion Week.
“VTMNTS stands for gender equality. Gender is such an important topic. Fashion is about identity, it’s about expressing who you really are inside,” Guram Gvasalia explained in the notes of the show, pointing out that the concept of dividing fashion into menswear and womenswear is “obsolete and old-fashioned”. He added: “We are all so much more than we are told to believe we are!”
Taking place at the Monoprix supermarket, which was permanently closed during the pandemic, the presentation revealed looks that combine traditional craftsmanship with experimental technology. The brand has developed its own sustainable fabrics this season, using these new materials to create unique silhouettes designed to fit all body types. “VTMNTS is built on building clothes using the most advanced technologies mixed with clothing sewing tricks invented centuries ago,” Gvasalia explained. The designer expanded on the new project, stating that Vetements and VTMNTS exist in one universe: “You can wear Vetements or be a VTMNTS gender person, or you can wear pieces from both brands to create an entirely new narrative.”
A series of tailored jackets opened the collection, with turtlenecks and gloves adding a touch of contrast in shades of pink, black and white. In true Vetements style, coats and suits came in boxy silhouettes with angled shoulder detailing. These cuts were accompanied by ultra-cropped puffer jackets, as well as tonal varsity jackets. Other highlights include cloudy sky prints on outerwear, as well as metallic silver apparel offering a futuristic feel.
