USC’s Sigma Nu fraternity suspends member at center of sexual assault allegations – CBS Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – The University of Southern California fraternity member of the Epsilon Omicron chapter of the Sigma Nu fraternity who was charged with sexual assault has been suspended, according to the chapter.
Los Angeles Police Department officials named Ryan Schiffilea, who was the chapter president, as a member of the fraternity in question.
As of Friday, he is no longer a member of the USC Section or the National Brotherhood pending a full investigation, the section said in an Instagram statement.
According to an email sent to USC staff and obtained by CBSLA, the university received reports of drugs being placed in drinks during a party at the Sigma Nu fraternity house located in the block. of 600 houses on W. 28th Street, leading to possible drug-facilitated sex. assaults.

The Sigma Nu Fellowship Chapter at USC has been temporarily suspended and, according to the email, cannot host any activities at the Fellowship House.
The chapter acknowledged in the statement that they had a “lack of communication” on the allegations, and that is because they “are going through the legal process.” They said they were working with USC, former volunteers and national fellowship leaders to resolve the issue.
“We take all of this information very seriously and remain committed to standing directly against abuse, harassment and assault in all its forms. We are also committed to taking appropriate responsibility and disciplinary action in response to any confirmed wrongdoing by a member, ”the section said in the statement.
Another allegation that the section is facing is that drugs were given to one or more participants at a social event at the Chapter Hall in September, which led to a sexual assault. The chapter said it currently has no further information on the incident, which is being investigated by the university’s Title IX office, which handles reports of sexual discrimination and violence.
