UPSC NDA 2021: More than 1.7 lakh of women candidates – Intensifying gender equality?

Union Public Service Commission, UPSC will host the National Defense Academy exam, NDA on November 14, 2021. As the Supreme Court order allowed women to apply from this very year, many stakeholders have welcomed the decision as a necessary step towards gender equality. As the exam date approached, it appeared that over 1.7 lakh of women applied for this exam.
UPSC NDA 2021 for the candidates will this time be in its first phase. The landmark Supreme Court ruling has made it possible for many women to achieve their dreams. But many people continue to wonder why has such a step towards gender equality taken so long?
This time there are over 5 lakh candidates for the UPSC NDA exam. Before the Supreme Court ruling favored female candidates, it was reported that female candidates must be allowed to apply for this exam from next year or 2022.
Various reasons such as lack of time to modify the program, make changes in training, make other arrangements, etc. were invoked. However, the Apex Court ruled that there could be no further delay in inducing women into the NDA and therefore this change was made.
Recently, even Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane said the Forces were ready to welcome female candidates. He even asked everyone to welcome them with the same level of professionalism and enthusiasm and assured that over the years the Forces have become better equipped and that the programs have changed for the better.
The UPSC NDA 2021 exam will take place on the same day for female and male applicants. The registration of candidates ended on November 14 and even on admit cards for exam have been issued.
