Punjab roads and PRTC contract workers staged a rally outside the gate of the local roads workshop here on Tuesday. They demanded the regularization of their services and other demands.

The rally was organized under the banner of Punjab Roadways, Punbus and PRTC Contract Workers’ Union. Addressing the occasion, Satnam Singh Tur, chairman of the depot, and other leaders said the assurance given by the AAP-led Punjab government to regularize the services of 35,000 employees was nothing other than cheating. Leaders said that, in line with government policy, the services of not even a single employee would be regularized.

The leaders said the announcements made on some occasions by Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar were nothing but lies. They said the AAP government is pretending to end the raj mafia in the transport sector, but according to the new transport policy, the induction of the buses of the big private bus operators into the PRTC would result in a loss of Rs 158 crore in the next six years. .

The leaders demanded the implementation of the principle of “equal pay for equal work”, in addition to the acceptance of other demands. Ravinderjot Singh, Gurpreet Singh and Ranjit Singh were among others who spoke on the occasion.

The union told the gherao the transport minister on August 15 in case their long-standing demands were not met.
