American Water included in Bloomberg Gender Equality Index 2022 for fourth consecutive year
American Water (NYSE: AWK), the largest publicly traded U.S. water and wastewater utility company, today announced it has been included in the Bloomberg Gender Equality Index (GEI) 2022 for the fourth consecutive year. GEI 2022 is expanding globally to represent 45 countries and regions, including companies headquartered in Colombia and Uruguay for the first time. Member companies represent a variety of sectors, including financial services, technology and utilities, which collectively have the highest company representation in the index.

The GEI is a modified market capitalization-weighted index that aims to track the performance of public companies committed to gender transparency. This benchmark measures gender equality through five pillars: female leadership and talent pool; equal pay and pay parity between men and women; inclusive culture; anti-sexual harassment policies and pro-women branding.

American Water submitted a social survey created by Bloomberg, in collaboration with subject matter experts around the world. Those included in this year’s index have met or exceeded an aggregate threshold set by Bloomberg to reflect disclosure and achievement or adoption of the best statistics and policies.
