CFL ALERT: ICJ RULES THAT ISRAEL MUST TEAR DOWN IT'S APARTHEID WALL.

The International Court of Justice has declared that Israel's apartheid wall is illegal, that its construction must stop and that compensation must be made to Palestinians whose homes and farms have been destroyed by the edifice. Israeli Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom has told Israeli media that it has guarantees that the U.S. will veto any resolution calling for action against the wall within the UN Security Counsel. The only UN body with the power to impose sanction is the Security Council, however, the U.S. has veto power which is regularly utilizes in order to allow Israel to disregard international law. It will only take you one moment to contact your representatives and demand that they stop encouraging Israeli defiance of the law.

TALKING POINTS
* Ask your representatives to explain how Americans benefit from allowing Israel to flout international law and to continue to oppress, murder and terrorize a civilian population. Demand that they support responsible and fair U.S. foreign policies and register your dismay that the U.S. continues to put Israeli interests over American interests. Tell your representatives that the U.S. foreign policy will never be legitimate as long as we have one set of standards for Israel and other expectations for the rest of the world.

*The international community unanimously understands that survival of the Palestinian people depends on the elimination of the apartheid wall. Farmers are cut off of their land and denied the ability to work and feed their families. The UN and the World Bank have issued extensive reports about the rampant malnutrition and the rise of anemia in the territories caused by the strangling of Palestinian society by the Israeli Occupation Forces. Ask your representatives how they can tolerate the deliberate starvation of an entire people.

*Remind your representatives that in building the apartheid wall Israel is violating a litany of UN Resolutions, most importantly, U.N. Resolution 252 which demands that Israel stop taking measures to unify Jerusalem as the Jewish capital. Still, Israel is building its wall around Jerusalem. Such action proves that Israel can, and will, violate any U.N. Resolutions it pleases without being held accountable by Washington.

*In January of this year, 15 bishops from Europe and the Americas met in Jerusalem and condemned the wall by saying: "We have seen the devastating effect of the wall currently being built through the land and homes of Palestinian communities …This appears to be a permanent structure, dividing families, isolating them from their farmland and their livelihoods, and cutting off religious institutions." The bishops also reported that "some priests, seminarians, sisters, brothers, and lay personnel are being denied or are having difficulties in obtaining visas and residence permits to study and work in Israel and the Palestinian territories." Remind your representatives that they regularly defend their support of Israel by claiming Israel is a democracy, the citizens of which have freedom of religion. Ask why it is more important for Jews in Israel to have freedom of religion than it is for Christians and Muslims in the Holy Land to enjoy this basic human right.
