CFL ALERT: SPREAD DEMOCRACY IN ISRAEL: Washington supports the theft of Palestinian land in the West Bank, leaving the one state solution as the only viable option for Palestinians and Israelis. Ask your representative to pressure our “closest ally” in the region to democratize themselves by giving each citizen of historic Palestine the right to vote. The time to end Israeli apartheid is long overdue.


TALKING POINTS:
* Last week, Israel announced it would move forward with the expansion of the largest illegal West Bank settlement — Maale Adumim, east of Jerusalem — by constructing more than 3,500 new homes in that colony. This violation of the roadmap has sparked an angry response from Palestinians who have continued to live up to their obligations and have not received any real concessions from the Israelis. The international communities, in particular European supporters of the Roadmap have also expressed alarm over Israeli and American positions and have asked for clarifications from the U.S. In response, Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice said in an interview with Israeli public radio broadcast Sunday, that while the U.S. is committed to the internationally drafted roadmap peace plan, which calls for the freezing of all settlement activity that there is total agreement between Israel and the U.S. on the expansion of West Bank settlements, "No one should say that there is no agreement between our two governments. There is. I hope I've been able to make it clear," she added.

*Please take a moment to write to your representatives and remind them that the U.S. drafted and sponsored Roadmap calls for a complete freeze on all illegal settlement activity in the West Bank and Gaza and that American approval of West Bank settlement expansion means that the U.S. has abandoned the roadmap. Please seize this opportunity to express your support for a one state solution in Israel/Palestine and the right of return for Palestinian refugees. Tell your representatives that if they support the right of Israelis to continue to steal Palestinian land, that they should also support the internationally recognized right of Palestinians to return to their homes inside of Israel (portion occupied in 1948).
