CFL ALERT: SHARON ADVISOR SAYS ISRAELI OBJECTIVE IS TO FREEZE PALESTINIAN
STATEHOOD INDEFINITELY—WITH U.S. BLESSINGS: Sharon Aide Dov Weisglass said in
an interview with Haaretz yesterday morning that Israel’s offer to withdraw
from Gaza was only meant to freeze Palestinian statehood indefinitely with
U.S. blessings. These comments are in contradiction to Israeli commitments to
the U.S.-backed "road map" ask your representatives to support one state for
Palestinians and Israelis.
*Excerpts from this interview are incredibly disturbing because they paint a
clear picture of Israeli/U.S. collusion to continue the illegal subjugation of
the Palestinian nation. Weisglass is quoted as saying: "It (the plan) supplies
the amount of formaldehyde that is necessary so there will not be a political
process with the Palestinians… The significance of the disengagement plan is
the freezing of the peace process. Effectively, the whole package called the
Palestinian state with all that entails has been removed indefinitely from our
agenda. And all this with authority and permission — all this with a
presidential blessing and the ratification of both houses of Congress… What I
effectively agreed to with the Americans was that part of the settlements
would not be dealt with at all, and the rest will not be dealt with until the
Palestinians turn into Finns… Out of 240,000 settlers, 190,000 will not be
moved from their place."
*Weisglass says that the Bush administration is acting in concert with Sharon
to freeze the peace process and to ensure Israel keeps large West Bank
settlements; please ask your elected officials to clarify these statements and
to also clarify their support of internationally condemned Israeli policies
which seek to continue over 50 years of slavery and apartheid in the
Palestinian territories.
*Tell your representatives that U.S. sanctioned settlement expansion negates
the two-state solution, leaving the one state solution as the only viable one.
Tell your representatives that as an American you can only support one
democratic state with equal social and human rights for Palestinians and
Israelis. A true democracy respects the rights of each citizen equally.
Historic Palestine now has 6 million Jews and over 5 million original
Palestinian inhabitants (with many million more living along the borders as
refugees). If the U.S. expects all different ethnic and religious groups in
Iraq to live together in one unified democratic nation, there is no reason for
this government not to demand that Israel do the same and offer citizenship to
Palestinians.
*Tell your representatives Democratic and Republican alike that unfettered
U.S. support for Israeli war crimes will affect how you vote in the next
election. For the sake of domestic security you expect that your elected
officials stop supporting the Israeli regime. Supporting Israeli crimes only
puts more American lives in peril as it fuels anger and hatred. Ask your
representatives what we as American citizens are gaining from our relationship
with Israel.
