CFL ALERT: SUPPORT AND ASSIST PALESTINIANS IN CARRYING OUT ELECTIONS WITHIN THE NEXT 60 DAYS.

The death of President Arafat has removed the number one excuse that the US and Israel had for denying the Palestinians their human rights and dignity. The US must demand that Israel not interfere with the Palestinian political process by preventing the Palestinian Authority to carry out elections within the next sixty days. Let us silence the shrill critics of President Arafat by respecting the democratic process that he created in the Palestinian Constitution which calls for democratic elections as soon as possible. It is our duty to assist such a process with all of our resources.

TALKING POINTS
*Tell President Bush that he must seize the opportunity to support immediate elections in Palestine, as is dictated in the Palestinian constitution. The United States must demand that Israel allow all Palestinians to participate in these elections by removing all checkpoints and providing an environment free from violence in which they can vote. Tell your representatives that you expect them not to impose any leadership upon the Palestinian people by dictating who they will and will not negotiate with on the Palestinian side.

*Tell your representatives that you expect this administration to utilize all of its influential powers to support the elected party and oversee the implementation of a just resolution for all parties involved. The Palestinians have endured countless humiliations and been the victims of state sponsored Israeli terrorism for too long. The death of President Arafat removes all of the so-called obstacles presented by the US and Israel as impediments to peace. The US must get serious with Israel, it is time to end the farce of endless negotiations which get the Palestinians nowhere but give Israelis time to continue to steal the rest of Palestine.
