CFL ALERT: TELL YOUR ELECTED OFFICIALS THAT YOU DO NOT SUPPORT APARTHEID BY
CALLING FOR ONE DEMOCRATIC STATE FOR ISRAELIS AND PALESTINIANS.
Unbridled Israeli settlement expansion along and the creation of the
internationally condemned apartheid wall has effectively moved the question of
a two-state solution off of the table between Palestinians and Israelis. Take
a moment to ask your representatives to stand up for the tenets of peace,
justice and freedom by supporting one state with equal rights for both Jews
and Palestinians. Whether you write your own letter or send our prewritten one
make sure that the principle of one state, one-man and one-vote is heard by
your representatives.
TALKING POINTS
* By supporting one state for Israelis and Palestinians, international law can
be upheld by allowing Palestinian refugees to return to their homeland.
Jerusalem could then become the shared capital for both people.
*Tell your representative that their support of Israeli policies have created
an environment where Israel feels it can do anything, including replicating
the outmoded system of white apartheid from South Africa. This week a leading
Israeli human rights organization, B’Tselem, issued a report on the Israeli
apartheid system on the roads in the occupied Palestinian territories.
B’Tselem uncovered the “Forbidden Roads Regime’ and describes how Israeli
officials have divided all roads in the Palestinian territories under three
categories: sterile roads', where Palestinian traffic is completely
prohibited, roads where Palestinians require special permits, and roads with
restricted access. These categories of course only apply to Palestinians and
Israeli vehicles are allowed to travel freely.
*Such blatant discrimination by Israeli officials violates all of the
fundamental principles of international law that Israel and every other
“democratic” nation is obligated to respect. Ask your representatives why they
continue to support such racism, elitism and apartheid. Tell them that in the
coming elections you will not support any party that tolerates this or any
other form of discrimination.
*Tell your representatives that ‘The Forbidden Roads’ regime is merely one
example of why we must support one democratic state with equal rights for all.
No Israeli politician has ever supported leaving all of the West Bank, Gaza
and Arab East Jerusalem, sadly both Democratic Presidential candidate John
Kerry and President Bush have stated that it is “unrealistic” to expect Israel
to give up all of the land it stole from Palestinians. A two-state solution
will never be either separate or equal. We must ask our representatives to say
no to apartheid in all of its manifestations everywhere in the world.
*Currently, there is only one candidate that supports equality and human
rights for both Israelis and Palestinians. It is time to let our Democratic
elected officials know that until they begin to respect the rule of law and
human rights that our votes will continue to go to Ralph Nader and others who
respect freedom for all.
