3/4/04 CFL ALERT: CONTACT YOUR REPRESENTATIVE AND ASK THEM NOT TO SUPPORT
H.Con.Res.371.
On 2/26/04 House Concurrent Resolution 371: “Supporting the construction by
Israel of a security fence to prevent Palestinian terrorist attacks and
condemning the decision by the United Nations General Assembly to request the
International Court of Justice to render an opinion on the legality of the
security fence” was introduced by Rep.Mike Pence (R-IN) to the House. So far
87 members of the U.S. Congress stand in defiance on international and
humanitarian law by signing on as co-sponsors of this resolution. Email your
representatives and ask that they not cosponsor H.Con.Res.371. If your
representative has already cosponsored this resolution, ask that they rescind
support for it.
TALKING POINTS:
*Remind your representatives that Israel’s apartheid wall violates
international and humanitarian law and has already been condemned by the
United Nations. Ask your representative to condemn the continued theft of
Palestinian land and ask them to hold Israel accountable to international and
humanitarian law for crimes against Palestinians.
*If your representative has co-sponsored this resolution (see below) ask them
to explain why they support the continued violation of the Palestinians’ human
rights. Ask your representatives why they do not support the American paradigm
of freedom and democracy for the Palestinians. Remind them that the precepts
of democracy demand that they condemn land expropriations, home demolitions,
illegal arrests, beatings, torture and the continued murder of Palestinian
civilians. Ask that they condemn continued Israeli defiance of UN resolutions,
the flouting of the Geneva Convention; and the decades of legal and social
discrimination against the Arab population within Israel.
*Ask your representatives to hold Israel accountable to the law and that you
disapprove of the willingness of the American government to ignore Israeli UN
violations and Israeli human rights violations. Ask your representatives not
to support an apartheid wall that is being built on land that is stolen from
the Palestinians, this wall will confiscate 45% of the West Bank. Remind your
representatives that U.N. Resolution 252 calls on Israel to stop taking
measures to unify Jerusalem as the Jewish capital, yet Israel is building its
wall around Jerusalem. H.Con.Res.371 proves that this government is aiding
Israel in its continued crimes against the Palestinian people.
*Tell your representatives that the survival of the Palestinian people depends
on the elimination of the apartheid wall. Farmers are being cut off of their
land and are thus being denied the ability to work and feed their families.
The United Nations and the World Bank have issued extensive reports about the
rampant malnourishment and the epidemic of anemia in the territories caused by
the strangling of Palestinian society by the Israeli Occupation Forces. We
cannot tolerate the deliberate starvation of an entire people.
