CFL ALERT: ISRAEL WANTS U.S. REPORT ON HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS POSTPONED UNTIL
AFTER THE HAGUE HEARING ON APARTHEID WALL.
Israel has requested that the State Department postpone its annual report on
human rights abuses around the world. The Israeli government does not want the
State Department’s findings on the apartheid wall to be disclosed until after
the International Court of Justice in The Hague rules on the legality of the
wall being constructed on stolen Palestinian land.
TAKE ACTION:
*Contact your representatives, the State Department and the President
immediately and express your opposition to delaying the report. The report is
expected to harshly criticize the apartheid wall and the suffering it causes
Palestinians; as such it would be dishonest for the State Department to
postpone publication until after the February 25 hearings in The Hague.
*It has been reported in Ha’aretz that Israel’s “friends” in Congress have
approached the State Department on behalf of the Israeli government and have
also requested that the report be postponed by a few weeks. Please take a
moment to contact your representatives and ask that they pressure the State
Department to release the report without delay.
