TALKING POINTS
*Impending sanctions against Syria are indicative of the racist double
standards in Washington against Arabs and Muslims. Call the president and your
representatives and tell them you support immediate diplomatic and economic
sanctions against Israel for its repeated flouting of international law and
U.N. resolutions.
*Tell your representatives that imposing sanctions against Syria while
rewarding Israeli intransigence does not promote our interests in the Middle
East and only works to strengthen the argument that a U.S./Israeli plan to
redevelop the Middle East is being played out.
*The current bill demands that Syria end its alleged support for terrorism,
halt development of chemical and biological arms, medium- and long-range
missiles, and end its “occupation” of Lebanon. The bill says nothing about the
decades-long illegal and immoral occupation of the Palestinian people, nor
does it mention Israel’s illegal nuclear weapons arsenal. This weekend
Mohammed al-Baradei, director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA),
said that Israel should immediately rid the region of its nuclear weapons. Ask
your representatives why they continue to ignore Israeli crimes. Ask how
allowing the Israelis to turn the Middle East into a cauldron of war and hate
can benefit Americans anywhere.
