CFL ALERT: Why Do We Support Israeli Crimes?
Condemning Palestinian suicide attacks while ignoring the cause of such
attacks is not helpful and does not promote peace in the region. It is time
for this government to stop acting as though Palestinian suicide bombings
occur in a vacuum independent of Israeli actions.
TALKING POINTS
*The U.S. government must acknowledge what the rest of the world already has:
The suicide bombings, as horrific as they are, are a direct result of the
continued murder of Palestinians, the theft of Palestinian land, and the
curfew in Palestinian towns that has rendered millions of Palestinians jobless
and hungry -- unable to go to work, school or even the hospital.
*10/4/03 Israeli Occupation Forces killed 18-month-old Mostafa Al-Badrasawi
with a bullet to the face.
*10/4/03 Israeli Occupation Forces gunned down a Palestinian child in the West
Bank town of Tulkarem. The child, Mohammad Barahme, 9, was killed when an
Israeli unit entered the refugee camp where he lived and opened fire on three
members of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade.
*10/2/03 Israel announced plans to build 660 new settler homes in the West
Bank, demolished 25 homes in Rafah to make way for the apartheid wall and
demolished one home in the Gaza strip, wounding 10 Palestinian civilians in
the process.
*10/1/03 Israel decided to include the Ariel settlement within its apartheid
fence, annexing and walling-in a significantly large portion of Palestinian
land in the West Bank. Ariel runs 12 miles into Palestinian territory.
*9/27/03 Three-year-old Palestinian toddler Lina Hassan Issa died of a heart
attack caused by fright when Israeli Apache helicopters attacked her
neighborhood in the middle of the night.
*9/25/03 Israeli Occupation Forces killed five Palestinians in Gaza, including
a 3-year-old girl, and raised the Palestinian death toll -- which included two
teenagers and a newborn -- to 11 in one week.
Ask your representatives and the Bush administration to demand a halt to both
Israeli and Palestinian violence. We cannot put the onus of peace on a people
under siege. As American citizens living in a post-9/11 world, we demand a
more responsible U.S. role in the Middle East vis-à-vis the Israel-Palestinian
conflict.
